Do you want to help strengthen the Seamen's Home as a visible player in an active harbour town in Greenland? Are you enterprising, persistent and good at building and maintaining relationships? And do you want to be part of life in a hotel where you lead the diaconal and spiritual work to make a positive difference for people in the town?<\/strong><\/p>

Then you might be our new seafarer missionary in Ilulissat, Greenland's third largest city with a rich cultural and natural life. Your new workplace will be the Seamen's Home and Hotel S\u00d8MA, a 22-room breakfast hotel with a view of the Icefjord.<\/p>

You will be part of a staff of 2-4 other employees (depending on the season) who work together to run the hotel. Your role as a deacon is to provide Christian welfare work for fishermen, hunters and sailors who visit the harbour in Ilulissat.<\/p>

Your tasks<\/strong>:<\/p>

  • Seafarer mission, including daily ship visits, visits to the dinghy harbour, visits to port affiliates, visits to trawlers, cruise mission, etc.<\/li>
  • Diaconal activities that relate to the people staying at the harbour and in the city, such as visits to the prison and vulnerable citizens - as well as festive activities in connection with Christmas and Easter.<\/li>
  • Organising morning devotions at the hotel in collaboration with the hotel manager.<\/li>
  • Development of diaconal, evangelising and social activities independently and in collaboration with the regional leader, other seafarer missionaries in Greenland and Denmark.<\/li>
  • Management of and sparring with any volunteers.<\/li>
  • Maintain and strengthen contact with the local church and other city institutions.<\/li>
  • Weekly operational shifts at the hotel, as well as weekend shifts and filling in for the hotel manager when he is on holiday.<\/li><\/ul>

    We expect you to:<\/strong><\/p>

    • Is loyal, spiritually mature and has the courage to live and work in Ilulissat for several years.<\/li>
    • Are self-disciplined, prayerful and persistent because you understand that work is done in long term stretches.<\/li>
    • You meet people at eye level and with an open mind, because you are sociable and sociable and good at seeking out and building relationships.<\/li>
    • Good at planning and getting things started - and equally good at implementing initiatives and persevering when it can sometimes be hard to see the fruits of your labour.<\/li>
    • Will be actively involved in the life and operation of the hotel, also as a spiritual counsellor and sparring partner for the other hotel management.<\/li><\/ul>

      • Opportunity to make a positive difference for citizens, seamen, fishermen and hunters in Greenland.<\/li>
      • Space to be creative and independently develop the seafarer mission work in Ilulissat.<\/li>
      • You will be trained according to a set training programme<\/li><\/ul>

        In addition, you also get:<\/strong><\/p>

        • A newly built home from 2023 available in Ilulissat.<\/li>
        • Flight tickets and travelling with your belongings to Ilulissat.<\/li>
